Police probe ‘kutu’ debt as possible lead in disappearance of family of three

POLICE have not ruled out the possibility that debts arising from participation in an informal rotating savings scheme, or "kutu", may have led to the disappearance of a family of three from their home in Taman Bayanmas, Bukit Kayu Hitam, since July 20.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim said police had so far received one report against the missing wife from an individual allegedly involved in the "kutu" scheme.

He said the woman, her husband and their child have yet to be located, while checks showed no record of the family leaving the country.

"Investigations are continuing as a missing persons case, and police are appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information if they have seen the family.

"Investigations are also being conducted from every angle, including the possibility that they may have fallen victim to a crime or been involved in an accident," he said on Wednesday.

The media previously reported that the family of three had been missing and unreachable after leaving their home in Taman Desa Bayanmas, Bukit Kayu Hitam, on July 20.

The woman's 62-year-old father subsequently lodged a police report at the Bukit Kayu Hitam police station after failing to trace his daughter, son-in-law and grandchild. - August 5, 2026
