Man remanded seven days over alleged rape of 19-year-old in Tawau

A 26-YEAR-OLD barber has been remanded for seven days after a 19-year-old teen alleged that he raped her at her PPR home in Tawau after she allowed him inside to help repair her mobile phone

A 26-year-old man has been remanded for seven days after a 19-year-old woman alleged that he raped her at her home at a People’s Housing Programme (PPR) in Tawau.

Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Rosdi Mat Jusoh said police received a report from the teen, who alleged that she was raped by the suspect, whom she knew as a neighbour at the PPR, on Tuesday.

He said the local man, who works as a barber, was arrested by a team from the Tawau District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division at his home at about 10pm on Thursday.

Preliminary investigations found that the alleged incident occurred at about 10pm after the woman allowed the suspect into her home to help repair her mobile phone.

“The suspect then allegedly took the victim to a room before committing the indecent act,” he said in a statement today.

The suspect was remanded for seven days until Sept 25 after Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin granted the police application.

The case is being investigated under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code. - September 19, 2026
