DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said neither he nor Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim were summoned to an audience over the ongoing dispute in the state.
“Neither the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar nor I was summoned to an audience. We only knew about it through the media,” he said today.
He said issues involving legal interpretation and the exercise of powers should not be viewed solely from the perspective of legal interpretation, but also take into account the need to respect the institutions and established structures in the state.
He added that matters concerning the ongoing controversy in Negeri Sembilan should be resolved properly within the state.
It was earlier reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, at Istana Negeri Sembilan, Changkat Persekutuan.
Anwar arrived at the palace at 6 pm before meeting Tuanku Muhriz for about an hour.
The meeting was believed to involve the latest developments involving the Negeri Sembilan state administration.
However, no further information was available on the outcome of the meeting.
On Tuesday, Tuanku Muhriz revoked the appointments of the members of the State Executive Council (Exco), effective immediately.
According to a statement by the Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali, the decision was made after it was found that all the Exco members concerned had breached their oath of office.
However, yesterday, the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar confirmed that all 10 members of the State Exco remained validly appointed and could continue carrying out their duties, with no need to submit a new list of appointments.
He claimed that this was based on a legal interpretation of the Constitution of the State of Negeri Sembilan 1959, particularly provisions concerning executive powers and the position of the Exco. – September 22, 2026
