GEORGE TOWN – DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has denied any plans to collude with Umno in order to topple the Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government, which is led by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.
He said the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition comprising DAP, PKR, and Amanah will undertake all efforts to return to power as a legitimate elected government despite the current political challenges.
He said the takeover of Putrajaya must revolve around the coalition’s present strengths, adding that it hopes for this to happen soon, or in the next general election.
“I am certain that (PKR president) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and (Amanah president) Mat
(Mohamad) Sabu, will not object to this. We are meeting on Monday to discuss the matter,” he said.
“This is the PH government initiative, and we will be there (in government), whether we reclaim (it now) or in the next general election” said the former finance minister.
Lim, who is also Bagan MP, said this during a joint press conference with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow who is the DAP vice-president at the state DAP headquarters at Jalan Rangoon here today.
He was responding to a question on whether DAP will work with Umno to form a new coalition to rule the country.
Lim was commenting on former Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Annuar Musa’s assertion after his sacking from the post that he has evidence to prove Umno under president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is working with DAP and PKR to topple the PN government.
The termination of Annuar’s tenure was announced by Zahid at an Umno division meeting recently.
“There is no basis in Musa’s statement, and it is not true at all that DAP is working with Umno,” said Lim. “I am a party secretary-general. I have met former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and spoken to them.
“Whenever I meet them, I just say hello and have a short conversation, and they have not discussed forming a government with me. I would say Annuar has the tongue of a monitor lizard,” Lim said.
Annuar, who is Federal Territories Minister and Ketereh MP, had today asked Lim to take care of his own party.
Responding to this, Lim said: “If you want to sell Umno, go ahead, but do not drag DAP into the matter.” – The Vibes, January 7, 2021
