KUALA LUMPUR – Police have opened an investigation paper on hacker group Anonymous Malaysia, following the group’s second warning today that it will launch a cyberattack.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob said the department’s cybercrime division received a report regarding the threat, adding that it will conduct an investigation on public mischief and criminal intimidation.

“The case will be investigated under Sections 505 and 507 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.”

Anonymous Malaysia recently released a video, which went viral on social media, threatening to hack government websites.

In the 55-second clip, the group claims that Malaysia’s low-level security systems allow hackers to access and sell leaked data, adding that the data of 46 million customers of telecommunications companies have been hacked so far.

Anonymous Malaysia today posted another video, lasting three minutes and 17 seconds, claiming that scammers have been cheating the public via email, phone calls and social media since 2015, following a data breach.

It claimed that the main reason for this is because private and government servers, containing such data, have been hacked and leaked, before being sold to third parties.

Last Tuesday, the National Security Council, through the National Cyber Security Agency, had issued a warning to all government agencies to take necessary measures to minimise and prevent the risk of cyberattacks. – Bernama, January 29, 2021
