KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Umno can claim as many seats as they want but the final decision lies in the hands of the nine-party Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said that the allocation of seats would be sorted out at a meeting with all component leaders.
“At the end of the day, all parties under PN and GRS will go through a discussion process before seat allocation is decided.
“The discussion will see parties presenting their strengths, and why they deserve the seat.
“All the parties have to come together to an agreement, like what we did during the Sabah state election last year.
“Even in Beluran (Kiandee’s constituency), Bersatu, STAR, PBS (Parti Bersatu Sabah) all want the seat, but it is still up to the coalition to decide,” he said.
Kiandee was commenting on Sabah Umno’s move to study the party’s chances in winning 14 federal seats in the coming general election.
At a recent Sabah Umno meeting, its chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said that the party was eyeing the 14 federal seats it had contested in 2018.
Studies will be done by the party’s Election Affairs unit (Juara), chaired by the secretariat chairman Shahelmy Yahya.

Kiandee who is Agriculture and Food Industries Minister said this at a press conference after an informal meeting with STAR President and GRS deputy chairman, Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan.
Meanwhile, Kitingan said that Bung had the privilege to aim for the 14 seats.
