MIRI – A 41-year-old man suffering from fever due to Covid-19 has died at the Sibu Hospital, making him one of two new fatalities in Sarawak recorded today.

This takes the state’s death toll to 76.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the infection rate is still high, with 133 fresh cases today.

The secretariat said there are still 25 active Covid-19 clusters statewide.

“The Bah Sayap cluster in Miri has ended while a new cluster, Jalan Muhibbah, broke out in Betong with 18 cases today,” it said.

Maradong district recorded the most new cases with 36, followed by Sibu (28), Kuching (12), Kapit (12), Betong (17), Samarahan (13), Bintulu (8), and Miri (3), while several other districts declared less than three new cases.

Sibu Hospital is treating 1,043 Covid-19 patients, followed by Miri Hospital with 239, Kapit Hospital (170), Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching (313), Bintulu Hospital (220), Sarikei Hospital (81), and Sri Aman Hospital (26).

The secretariat again reminded people in Sarawak that the state’s war against Covid-19 is far from over.

The rakyat need to help authorities by obeying every standard operating procedure in place to stop the chain of infection. – The Vibes, February 23, 2021
