KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 caseload dropped to 1,327 today, after recording a two-week high of 1,671 infections yesterday.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the cumulative number of infections in the country to 333,040.

The country also recorded four fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,233.

Dr Noor Hisham said 1,247 recoveries were recorded today, pushing the total discharged to 317,289.

He said 11 of today’s new infections were imported.

Of the active cases, 154 are in intensive care, while 65 require breathing assistance.

Selangor logged the highest number of cases at 356, followed by Sarawak (276), Penang (205), Johor (141), and Kuala Lumpur (115).

Perak detected 55 new cases, followed by Sabah (50), Kedah (30), Kelantan (30), Negri Sembilan (22), Terengganu (18), Pahang (11), Melaka (10), Perlis (five) and Putrajaya (three).

Labuan did not record any new cases today.

Dr Noor Hisham said 89 cases reported today were related to detention centres involving the Juru DTI cluster (53 cases), Tembok Tapah cluster (31 cases), Tembok Mempaga cluster (two cases), Tembok Taiping cluster (two cases) and Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (one case).

He said Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak and Sarawak recorded one death each. All of them involved Malaysian citizens.

Dr Noor Hisham said the country has detected a total of 1,297 clusters, including five new clusters today.

The number of clusters that have ended stands at 881, including 10, which are the Jalan Pandan Ria, Lot Satu, Jalan Pelepas Empat, Jalan Badak, Jalan Kancil Waha, Sebangkoi, Tapak Bina Kasia, Wawasan Kulai, Jalan Industri Dua Belas and Jalan Sg Rasa clusters.

He said 64 active clusters recorded new cases.

The clusters that recorded the most new cases are the Sg Putus cluster (63 cases), Jalan Salak construction site cluster (62 cases) and the DTI Juru cluster (53 cases).

He said four of the new clusters are workplace-related, while one is from the community.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that from January 1 until March 21, some 3,170 cases were related to interstate travel.

Kedah recorded the highest interstate travel cases at 714, followed by Perak (582) and Negri Sembilan (370) in the span of three months.

“Cases and clusters from interstate travel does not only lead to the spread of Covid-19 in green zones, but the activity of returning to home towns raises the risk of Covid-19 on vulnerable groups like the elderly and children,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

He also reminded the public to observe standard operating procedures set by the Health Ministry, although the rate of infections in the country is showing a down trend.

On the new clusters detected, Dr Noor Hisham said Johor recorded the Jalan Permas Baru cluster in Johor Baru with 12 cases, followed by the Jalan Gemilang Tiga cluster in Johor Baru and Kota Tinggi with 53 cases.

Selangor logged the Jalan You City construction site cluster in Hulu Langat with 25 cases, while Penang saw the Bukit Tambun cluster in Seberang Prai with 16 cases.

Meanwhile, Sabah detected the D Gana cluster in Keningau with 20 cases. – The Vibes, March 21, 2021
