SANDAKAN – More than 30,000 people are affected by the two-week suspension of bus services here, with many forced to take costlier taxi and e-hailing rides to get to their destinations.
Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) chairman Datuk Chin Kim Hiung announced the halt in services following the detection of Covid-19 cases among bus drivers in a testing drive yesterday.
The vehicles, as well as bus stops and the related facilities, will be sanitised, he said.
There are 673 stage buses and 122 minibuses registered with the state CVLB in the district.
Chin said the board will apply to the Health Ministry for coronavirus screening to be conducted among public transportation drivers in high-risk areas.
He called on bus operators to ensure passengers use the MySejahtera contact-tracing app when they resume operations. – The Vibes, October 6, 2020
