SANDAKAN – A day before the movement control order (MCO) began yesterday, Muslims here attended their “last” tarawih prayer at the mosques in Sandakan.

Most worshippers believe that it would be their final chance to perform the prayer together at a mosque in the month of Ramadan before the MCO kicked in.

The lockdown is scheduled to end on April 30, but locals have accepted the fact that it may be extended.

Nuruddin Walter, 28, said he noticed that there were more people than usual performing the prayer at the district mosque here that day.

“A lot of people had come to perform the prayer as they fear that it will be their only opportunity to do so this Ramadan,” he told The Vibes.

“Muslims here were not able to perform the prayer at mosques last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, so, this year, we made sure that all of us will be at the mosque for tarawih.”
