KUALA LUMPUR – Daily Covid-19 infections in Malaysia neared the 3,000-mark today, logging 2,875 fresh cases, as well as seven deaths, the Health Ministry said.
This brings the total caseload to 384,688 and the death toll to 1,407.
The country also recorded 2,541 recoveries, pushing the total number of those discharged to 361,267.
The ministry said 29 cases today are imported.
It also said 248 cases are in intensive care, with 115 requiring breathing assistance.
Kelantan tops the list of infections at 662, followed by Selangor (633), Sarawak (474) and Kuala Lumpur (332).
Johor recorded 169 cases, followed by Sabah (160), Penang (144), Kedah (91), Negri Sembilan (55), and Perak (49).
Melaka detected 42 cases, followed by Pahang (29), Terengganu (22), Putrajaya (10), and Labuan (3).
Only Perlis did not record any new cases, it said.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 51 of the new cases were reported at detention centres, namely in the Pagar Siput Dua cluster (29), DTI Lenggeng cluster (17), Tembok Tapah cluster (2), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (2) and Tembok Sri Aman cluster (1).
He said three deaths occurred in Sabah, two in Selangor, and one each in Sarawak and Kelantan.
The country has seen a total of 1,565 clusters, including 13 new ones today.
Clusters that have been contained stand at 1,213, including four today, namely Putra Satu, Jalan Kenangan construction site, Balakong Satu and Siasai Tamu.
Of the 352 clusters still active, 74 recorded fresh infections. Those with the most new cases are Kg Domis (162), Jalan Hospital (101) and Jalan Shah Banting (55).
Dr Noor Hisham said five of the new clusters are related to the workplace, community (4), schools or learning institutions (3), and religious events (1).
Selangor recorded the Jalan Semtac cluster in Hulu Langat with 12 cases, Jalan Shah Banting cluster in Kuala Langat (58), and Jalan Raji cluster in Petaling, Sabak Bernam and Klang (42).
Johor logged the Jalan Industri Mekanikal cluster in Pontian (7), and Jalan Skin cluster in Kota Tinggi and Kulai (10), while Sabah saw the Kota Sawit cluster in Kinabatangan (14).
Kuala Lumpur registered the Jalan Salahuddin cluster in Kepong and Lembah Pantai (10), while Sarawak logged the Sg Banus cluster in Selangau (41). Melaka saw the Jalan Pokok Mangga cluster in central Melaka (19).
Perak recorded the Taman Changkat cluster in Hilir Perak (10), while Kelantan logged the Mengkebang cluster in Kuala Krai (21).
Kedah registered the Dinamik cluster in Kota Setar (15), while Negri Sembilan saw the Kg Bangkahulu cluster in Tampin and Seremban (11). – The Vibes, April 22, 2021
