KOTA KINABALU – Let Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration complete its electoral term until 2023.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk Chin Su Phin, in saying this, added that all political parties should put aside differences and, instead, focus on combating the Covid-19 pandemic, as opposed to fighting over power.

“Muhyiddin has been facing unprecedented challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Over the past year, he not only had to deal with Covid-19 outbreaks and their economic implications, but was also pressured by Umno and other opposition parties.

“Yet, the prime minister remains unfazed, and chooses to direct his attention to curb the spread of Covid-19 and revive the economy of the country.”

LDP has decided to join the Perikatan Nasional coalition as it admires Muhyiddin’s leadership, he added.

Chin said the emergency should be lifted only after herd immunity has been achieved, which is when 80% of the population has been immunised.

“Calling for a general election now will trigger another wave of infections, which will prolong current movement control orders.

“Our economy will collapse, especially Sabah’s, which is heavily reliant on tourism revenue.

“The people will not be able to survive under such circumstances any longer.”

He also criticised Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for causing a political turmoil to advance their personal interests.

“The political chaos in Malaysia would not have happened if Dr Mahathir hadn’t resigned as prime minister, Anwar hadn’t lost his grip on Pakatan Harapan and Umno hadn’t betrayed its allies.

“Now, the same group of people are fighting over power again. The only thing these politicians care about is being in power rather than the people’s well-being.

“These selfish politicians do not deserve the people’s support.”

Umno, the largest party in Malaysia, he said, toppled because of the antics of Zahid and former president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“I hope that someone will step forward to replace Zahid and form a new leadership to reform Umno.”

Chin admitted that the people favoured a two-party system in the current political landscape, making it tough for a third political force to garner their support.

“It was clear in the last Sabah polls that voters chose either PN or PH, even though they disliked both coalitions, rather than giving a third political force a chance.”

Hence, he said, LDP has decided to join PN as in reality, only mainstream political parties will be able to resolve issues faced by the grassroots.

“No matter which political camp we are in, LDP will continue to serve the people.” – The Vibes, May 2, 2021
