MIRI – Sarawak gets a much-needed respite today, as there is no new Covid-19 death reported by the state Disaster Management Committee.

However, the Health Ministry reported one fatality in Saratok Hospital today, involving a 90-year-old man.

Sibu has, again, recorded the highest number of daily cases at 72, followed by Bintulu (65), Miri (59), Pakan (41), Sarikei (36), Kuching (35), Meradong (30), Selangau (24), Kanowit (16), Serian (14) and Pusa (11), while other districts have fewer than 10 cases each.

The state also logged one new cluster, bringing the total number of clusters in the state to 76.

The Jalan Stadium Negeri community cluster in Kuching involves 17 individuals in a sports club, said the secretariat.

Police and local councils have stepped up enforcement against those defying enhanced movement control order standard operating procedures (SOPs), with 96 police fines and 55 council compounds issued.

Kuching police also arrested three Bruneians, a Sudanese, a Yemeni and a Bangladesh national at a bistro in the district for violating SOPs. – The Vibes, May 9, 2021
