KUALA LUMPUR – The government will roll out a drive-through Covid-19 vaccination system here, said Khairy Jamaluddin today.

The science, technology and innovation minister said under the pilot programme, trucks will be deployed to People’s Housing Project (PPR) flats.

The initiative, mooted by a private company, will also serve construction sites that are allowed to operate during the two-week total lockdown that comes into force tomorrow, he said.

“I have spoken to Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa on this matter (implementing the pilot programme in Kuala Lumpur).

“We will roll out the programme at PPRs, and construction sites that are in operation during the lockdown period.”

A total of 30 trucks will be used in the initial stage of the initiative, with a target of more than 100 vaccine doses administered per day, he said.

“The Health Ministry has already rolled out mobile outreach vaccinations. These are taking place at elderly care homes. We have already deployed mobile units from the ministry.

“We will certainly consider these options for the refugee population. Tomorrow, we will discuss vaccination for refugees, and see how to do it in the most effective way.”

Khairy added that the government will later decide whether the outreach programme will be implemented on a larger scale.

He also announced the arrival of approximately 400,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech jab and 600,000 of the Sinovac vaccine this week. – The Vibes, May 31, 2021
