KUALA LUMPUR – Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at 2.30pm tomorrow, according to an aide.

The Langkawi MP and former prime minister is expected to spend an hour speaking with the king, before Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

A source told The Vibes that Shafie is scheduled to meet the Agong at 3.30pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be heading to Istana Negara for his audience with the king at 10am on Friday.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, too, has been granted an audience, but the party’s secretary-general, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, has not disclosed the date and time.

The Agong will speak online with presidents of Gabungan Parti Sarawak parties – Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu president Datuk Abang Johari Openg, Parti Rakyat Sarawak president Tan Sri James Masing, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Progressive Democratic Party president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing – on Monday.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was the first to meet the king this morning, prior to a cabinet meeting.

Opposition leader and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s audience took place at about 11am, during which he asked the Agong to not extend the state of emergency beyond August 1 as it has been very hard on the people, particularly the poor.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu met the king at about 2pm and 3pm, respectively. They, too, raised issues pertaining to the economic hardship faced by the people. – The Vibes, June 9, 2021
