KUALA LUMPUR – Police have detained six men over the assault of a customer by a group of food delivery riders in Sg Way, Petaling Jaya, today.

District police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid, in a statement, said those arrested are five riders and the customer in question, all aged between 19 and 40.

He said police have received a report from a rider, who claimed that the customer used a name deemed religiously offensive in a message.

“The complainant took a screenshot of the message sent by the customer and shared it on a food delivery group messaging platform. It angered a group of riders, who then went to the customer’s house.

“The customer, 29, was then assaulted by the riders, resulting in injuries. The riders then brought him to the Sg Way police station for further action.”

Police are looking for other individuals involved in the incident, he said.

The case is being investigated under Sections 298 and 147 of the Penal Code.

Fakhrudin called on the public not to raise issues or make statements that could threaten public order and harmony.

He also reminded people not to take the law into their own hands, and instead, leave it to police to investigate. – Bernama, June 11, 2021
