MIRI – Seven Covid-19 fatalities were recorded in Sarawak today bringing the death toll to 373.

Meanwhile, a total of 536 new infections were logged with Sibu recording the highest at 115 cases followed by Kuching (60), Miri (21), Kanowit (52), Bintulu (40), Bau (30), Tebedu (28), Julau (24) and numerous other districts below 20 new cases each.

The state Disaster Management Committee said the deaths involved two men aged 81 and 82 in Bintulu, a 76-year-old man in Tatau, one 77-year-old man and two women aged 70 and 84 in Sibu and a 70-year-old man in Miri.

All of the victims died in hospital.

The committee also identified two new outbreaks in the state namely the Kg Sg Agas cluster in Kuching involving 16 villagers that attended a funeral, while the Jalan Sg Tapang cluster, also in Kuching, saw 31 factory workers infected.

Screenings are being done by the state health teams in these areas, the committee said. – The Vibes, June 18, 2021
