KOTA KINABALU – A two-hour downpour since 2pm today has left several major roads here and in Penampang inundated.

People were also seen trapped in their vehicles due to the flash flood which had caused the road leading to One Borneo Hypermall, Jalan Sulaman, Jalan Lintas, Old Tuaran Road, Inanam, and several major roads in Penampang to be inundated.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said they had received distress calls from people trapped on the road.

“Nine firemen were rushed to help those who were trapped in their vehicles along with machinery, as well as an Emergency Medical and Rescue Service team,” said the spokesperson, adding that no evacuation exercise has been launched so far.

Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin has taken Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I cum state Works Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin to task for failing to address the state’s flooding problem.

Early this year, many west coast districts in Sabah were inundated due to the monsoon season.

Chan blamed the poor drainage and irrigation in the state for the recurring flash floods, which has seen hundreds of people displaced. – The Vibes, June 18, 2021
