MIRI – Seven more people have died of Covid-19 in Sarawak amid fresh outbreaks that hit populated localities in the district of Telang Usan.
The deceased were three men aged 59, 73 and 86 and a woman aged 67 in Sibu Hospital, a woman aged 87 in Meradong, a woman aged 74 in Pakan and a man aged 71 in Kuching.
The death toll from the pandemic in Sarawak stands at 389, said the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat today, before expressing condolences to the affected families.
There were two fresh outbreaks in two clusters today.
The Sg Long Seripa cluster in Sebauh district saw 40 longhouse residents infected while the Lumyin cluster in Telang Usan district saw 29 villagers in the Long Lumyin and Long Tapan longhouses infected.
The secretariat said active tracing and screening are being carried out in these affected areas.
There were 507 new positive cases today statewide.
Sibu district recorded the highest number of new cases with 85, followed by Kapit (65), Sebauh (42), Song (30), Subis (27), Bintulu (26), Mukah (15), and Miri (15), with other districts logging under 15 cases each. – The Vibes, June 22, 2021
