GEORGE TOWN – The Penang High Court today set July 28 to hear date a gag order application filed by the prosecution against activist Arun Dorasamy in the murder case of T. Nhaveen.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Amril Johari told The Vibes that, during online proceedings today, no objections were filed from the defence team, represented by lawyer Manvir Singh.
Judicial commissioner Mohd Radzi Abdul Hamid also instructed lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan, representing Arun and Nhaveen’s family, not to publish any posts on social media about Nhaveen's case.
“If, after this, Arun makes any statement on social media, he will be considered to be in contempt of court. The prosecution and defence have also made affidavits for all of Arun's posts and statements on social media," he said.
The Vibes had reported in May that Arun, who chairs the Nhaveen Action League, had taken the prime witness in Nhaveen’s murder case, T. Previin, 22, away from Penang for his safety.
Arun had claimed Previin had received death threats over the phone telling him he would be killed if he disclosed any more details on Nhaveen’s murder.
The Nhaveen Action League was founded to support the victim’s mother, D. Shanti.
Shanti, 47, had also previously filed four police reports seeking a reinvestigation into the case, despite criminal court proceedings now taking place against four suspected of murdering her son.
She is seeking a fresh investigation as she believes the one that concluded in 2017 is incomplete.
J. Ragesuthen and S. Gokulan, both 18, along with two others, one aged 17 and another who turned 18 in July 2017, were charged with murdering Nhaveen between 11pm and midnight on June 9, 2017, near the Karpal Singh Learning Centre in Jalan Kaki Bukit, Bukit Gelugor.
They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. – The Vibes, June 25, 2021
