KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor exco Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud has warned that the state will be forced to temporarily close some vaccination centres unless its Covid-19 vaccine supply is replenished.
In a series of tweets, she said the state’s vaccination capacity stands at 87,616, and that it administers a daily average of 50,000 first-dose jabs and 20,000 for the second.
“Balance 20k doses. If no additional vaccines arrive by tomorrow, some PPV will hv to close.
“Discriminate (against) Selangor, (and the) whole country will suffer. You answer to Allah YB Menteri.”
She tagged national vaccination programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his chief medical adviser Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood, as well as Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Dr Siti Mariah, who holds the public health, unity, women and family development portfolios, said the Covid-19 clusters involving factories in Selangor can be contained by vaccinating workers.
“Targeted vaccination is the way to go. We need more vaccines menteri. Please listen.”
She said the number of PPVs in Selangor is sufficient, but the lack of vaccine supply is hindering immunisation efforts.
“Existing PPVs cannot operate maximally because (there are not) enough medical personnel (from the Health Ministry) to vaccinate and also vaccines (are) not enough to vaccinate in other centres.”
In response, Khairy’s science adviser Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Ghows Azzam tweeted that Dr Siti Mariah could have easily contacted the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) about the matter.
“You could have easily contacted CITF regarding this instead of putting it on social media. Let me explain, in the VMS system, Selangor currently has about 339,000 doses. With Selangor utilising 40,000/day, this is enough for at least a week.
“On top of that, there is scheduled delivery on 28/6, 29/6, 30/6, 1/7, 2/7,3/7 and 4/7 to Selangor. If you are talking about vaccines outside of PICK (national immunisation programme), for that, I can’t help. May Allah bless our efforts.”

Last night, Dr Siti Mariah accused Khairy of lying about the country having enough doses.
Ministers are unaware of the issues on the ground, she said, adding that Selangor has the capacity to administer more jabs.
“Dont lie saying supply cukup (there is enough supply). Be truthful or yr nose will get longer @Khairykj.”
Yesterday, the minister told a press conference that the lagging immunisation rate in Selangor is due to its low vaccine utilisation rate.
He said the state is capable of administering 20,000 doses a day, but steps have been taken to increase the figure to 50,000.
“This is still not enough, the number of doses must be doubled to 100,000 a day. We are opening more mega PPVs to boost the vaccination rate.”
The issue of insufficient vaccine supply at some PPVs in Malaysia will be resolved by July, he said. – The Vibes, June 27, 2021
