KOTA KINABALU – A 28-year-old Sabahan woman was shocked to find herself listed on MySejahtera as a Covid-19 patient at Johor’s Pasir Gudang Hospital.
Alexandra Rita Padua in a Facebook post said she suspects that another person had used her name and MyKad details in Kluang. That individual then tested positive for the virus, and was admitted to hospital.
She received a text from the Health Ministry on Thursday asking that she update the app for daily assessment, and that was when she discovered she was listed as a confirmed, asymptomatic case.
Alexandra said the last time she underwent a swab test was on May 23, when she had to visit her father in hospital.
“I quickly went to Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (which has a testing centre at the entrance) to request a swab test to confirm if I was really Covid-19-positive. But they couldn’t give me a test because I had no symptoms, no close contact (history), and was not assigned by a doctor.
“I was angry, asking them if I should go home or roam around town not knowing whether I was positive. They told me to call the Penampang clinic and ask if I could undergo the test there. I called the clinic and was told the same thing, that I couldn’t take the test.”
She said the clinic staff told her to ignore the positive status on MySejahtera, as “it cannot be trusted sometimes”.
“I was in disbelief with the answers I got.”
She then went to the Likas Covid-19 centre to enquire about the matter. An employee there checked her MyKad details and found that she was listed as a Covid-19 patient whose infection was detected in Kluang.
Alexandra works in Kuala Lumpur, but travelled to Sabah on May 13 to look after her father.
“That was over a month ago, and I’ve never been to Kluang.
“I was told to call the Kluang Covid-19 operations centre to double-check, and they told me that they had called to inform me I was positive a day before (Wednesday). But, I didn’t receive such a call.
“They told me the phone number, and it isn’t mine.”
Suspecting identity theft, she lodged a report at the Penampang police station.
“Police in Penampang and Kluang told me that they will investigate the matter, but my problem now is that MySejahtera still states that I’m positive for Covid-19,” she told The Vibes.
“I hope my status is changed soon. If I go around checking in on MySejahtera, the places I go to will have to close down because of this status.
“From my experience, I also believe that government hospitals and clinics should provide free swab tests to everyone. If people are volunteering to be tested, they should not be turned away.” – The Vibes, June 28, 2021
