KOTA KINABALU – Warisan is renewing its call for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government to make a stand on dine-ins in the state.

The issue of whether eating at eateries is allowed in Sabah is in limbo due to the absence of new standard operating procedures (SOPs).

As it stands, Sabah is very much in Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) following the federal government’s decision to not relax any SOPs in the state.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had earlier announced that five states will be transitioning to Phase 2 of the NRP beginning July 5. They are Perlis, Perak, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Warisan vice-president Datuk Junz Wong, in reaffirming the party’s support for GRS to pursue Sabah’s autonomous rights, said the decision ultimately rests in the hands of the state government.

“Warisan’s stand on Sabah’s autonomous rights is very clear. We will support all efforts to pursue Sabah’s autonomous rights, regardless of who is in government.

“That is why we supported GRS’ attempts to make its own decision.

“In fact, Warisan feels that Ismail Sabri should not have disrespected the position of the state chief minister by telling him off publicly,” he said in a statement.

Wong said now that the federal government has once again indicated its hesitation to relax SOPs in Sabah, it is GRS’ duty as the state government to make a stand.

“As Warisan is not part of the state administration, we are not privy to certain information. We can only support, but the decision must be made by GRS.

“GRS has access to Health Ministry data and information, like the recent Delta variant. So, my advice to GRS is to carefully deliberate and make a firm decision for Sabahans’ benefit.” – The Vibes, July 3, 2021
