KUALA LUMPUR – The government’s launch of the Op Bantu initiative kicks off today with the distribution of 50,000 food packages today.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the initiative will be led by 157 district police chiefs, as well as the involvement of Skuad Aman Wanita and the People’s Volunteer Corps.
“The Skuad Aman Wanita aims to increase the awareness on the safety of women while also educating women on safety around their neighbourhood,” he said during a joint press conference with Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun.
Hamzah added that all police headquarters will become distribution and storage centres for food supply under Op Bantu.
He added that members of the People’s Volunteer Corps will carry out surveillance to gather information to assist in the distribution of the food aid to those who need it.
“To anyone who has had their food supply cut off, they should notify their closest police headquarters and present themselves at the station to receive the assistance.
“If they are unable to be present at the police headquarters, they should contact the closest police headquarters through the hotline or through the Op Bantu WhatsApp hotline that will be notified to the public,” he said.
He added that the information and data collected from this initiative will be handed over to the Social Welfare Department so that efforts to help those struggling can continue. – The Vibes, July 6, 2021
