KUALA LUMPUR – Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Mohd Puad Zarkashi has questioned the government’s need for four senior ministers in its Cabinet following the appointment of a deputy prime minister.

In a Facebook post, Puad noted that prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s Cabinet of 70 people was “too large” with 31 ministers and 38 deputies.

“Is it not a waste? Furthermore, what are their (senior ministers’) roles and jurisdictions other than having ‘police escorts’?,” asked Puad.

“Actually with the Covid-19 pandemic, senior ministers’ posts – including representatives with ministerial positions – should be ended. It’s a waste and there is no teamwork.”

Puad said the issue of cohesion was the reason why the government “failed”.

The Umno politician also referred to the “brave” statement by Malaysian Armed Forces health services division head of management Brigadier General Mohd Arshil Moideen, who recently said the government lacked “unified action” and “coordination” from the top down.

“It looks like only four ministers are working. There is also a minister who opens back doors. And it’s a senior minister. The government has failed.” – The Vibes, July 11, 2021
