KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has announced that the Finance Ministry will for the first time publish the pre-Budget statement in August.

The statement will reveal input and documents based on public consultations to ensure greater public participation, as well as increasing government transparency on the annual Budget.

The 12th Malaysia Plan will be tabled on September 20 at the Dewan Rakyat, as well as during the Budget 2022 tabling on October 29.

He said the Budget 2022 will have three main focuses – driving economic recovery, rebuilding national resilience and providing the catalyst for reform.

“Special focus will be made on recovery efforts for the worst-hit sectors such as tourism, while increasing the competency of our healthcare system as well as increasing the scope of social protection while fuelling the digital economy to strengthen the nation’s competitiveness in the face of new global norms.”

A National Recovery Plan (NRP) portal has also been launched to provide information on the plan, its benefits and current standard operating procedures.

To ensure the NRP is carried out smoothly, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz was appointed as its coordinating minister. Muhyiddin had chaired the first meeting on July 23.

The government has also set up the National Recovery Council (NRC) with the involvement of representatives from the private sector, industry experts, NGOs and representatives from Sabah and Sarawak. – The Vibes, 26 July, 2021
