KUALA LUMPUR – Umno MPs, who have been unusually quiet during today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting, earned rebuke from Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman as he called on them to speak up as they typically do on their own social media accounts.
The former youth and sports minister said Umno, although being part of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, should not be afraid to speak up.
“Don’t kid ourselves. This is not just a Bersatu government. Where is Umno? On social media, they make noise but in the Dewan Rakyat, they are quiet.”
Syed Saddiq told the Umno MPs to not be afraid if threatened for not supporting the government, as what allegedly happened to him when he refused to join the PN coalition.
“If they want to threaten us, let them threaten. We should not be afraid.
“We have to ‘lawan’. If you are afraid like this, the government has failed (kerajaan gagal).
“If you want to fight, fight for real. The people are watching and evaluating.”
He also urged for a vote of confidence against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to be held during this five-day special meeting at Parliament.
“The Umno president and his party have stated that they have withdrawn their support for the prime minister.
“For a stable government, there should be a vote of confidence (against Muhyiddin) in this Dewan Rakyat.”
Meanwhile, he reiterated the call for a windfall tax to be implemented on mega companies profiting excessively during the pandemic.
“Why is the government scared of these companies?
“Implement windfall tax on them so in the end, the tax money can be given to contract doctors to ensure their welfare is being taken care of.” – The Vibes, July 26, 2021
