KUALA LUMPUR – After much speculation online, the Prime Minister’s Office has finally confirmed the appointment of Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as a special adviser to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, in a statement said the post comes with a ministerial rank.
Faizal will be “advising the prime minister on all matters related to community welfare, communications, and socio-economic affairs”.
“PMO would like to congratulate Faizal on this appointment.”
Earlier today, posters congratulating the Tambun MP on the appointment, purportedly issued by Kota Baru Bersatu and the party’s Batu Gajah women’s wing, made the rounds on WhatsApp and other social media platforms.
Previously, Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing was made special envoy to China, and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, special envoy to the Middle East.
In March, Mercy Malaysia founder Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood was appointed special adviser to Muhyiddin on public health.
Last December, Faizal was voted out as Perak menteri besar after losing a vote of confidence in the state legislature.
After announcing his resignation as head of the state government, he told the waiting press, in jest, “See you at Seri Satria”.
Seri Satria is the deputy prime minister’s official residence in Putrajaya.
At the time, there were rumours that Faizal would take the post. – The Vibes, August 5, 2021
