KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan has quit as Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) board chairman effectively immediately.

This comes after Wanita Umno head Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad’s resignation as higher education minister yesterday.

In his statement today, Rahman thanked Noraini for appointing him as chair to the UMS board and his resignation is in line with Umno Supreme Council’s resolution on Tuesday.

“I would like to thank UMS staffers for their cooperation during my term.”

More resignations are expected in days to come after Umno withdrew support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassina and Perikatan Nasional government.

However, Umno’s move to push for the prime minister to resign has been met with resistance from some of its party members and MPs from the Barisan Nasional coalition.

Muhyiddin had said he would prove his majority in Dewan Rakyat next month after pressure from the royal institution, opposition and Umno. – The Vibes, August 7, 2021
