MIRI – Why is it that Sarawak still sees daily Covid-19 cases surging by the thousands and deaths on the rise despite state leaders claiming that herd immunity has been attained?
Baram People’s Action Committee chairman Philip Jau said the people are puzzled by the claims of herd immunity not being reflected by the reality on the ground.
“Today, we in Sarawak see another day of new record-high infections,” said the native rights group leader.
“At the same time, several state ministers announced that Sarawak has attained herd immunity as more than 80% of the people are vaccinated.
“If indeed there is herd immunity, why are cases and deaths increasing so fast every day? Is it due to the Delta variant?
“Does this mean our herd immunity is being jeopardised by the Delta and other variants? We the people deserve some proper answers,” Jau told The Vibes.
Sarawak today notched a new daily record of 2,992 new infections. It surpassed the previous record of 2,548 cases on August 20.
