KOTA KINABALU – A 65-year-old woman who complained of pain and breathing difficulties while she was on the phone with her daughter was found dead inside her flat in Taman Jaya Diri today.

Lintas fire station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said the woman had told her daughter, who is working in Peninsular Malaysia, over the phone of her health condition.

Guasi said the daughter began to get worried about her mother’s condition when she no longer picked up her calls.

“She then decided to call a neighbour and asked her to check on her mother, who was living alone in the flat.

“A neighbour went to the unit and found the door was locked, and proceeded to call out to the woman, but there was no response.

“The neighbour then immediately called the Lintas fire station at 4.37pm.

“When firemen arrived, they forced the door open and found the woman unconscious,” he said.

He said health authorities were called in, and they confirmed that the woman had died.

It is learnt that the woman was not under home surveillance and had no alert wristband.

Guasi said coincidentally, the firemen also had to respond to another emergency in the same area.

Responding to health authorities’ alert, Guasi said they had to rush to another flat in an adjacent block where an 80-year-old man was also found unconscious.

“The man was suffering the same breathing difficulties as the woman.

“Health authorities performed CPR on the senior citizen before rushing him to the hospital.” – The Vibes, September 9, 2021
