KOTA KINABALU – Tourism activities are now allowed within the same district in Sabah, as revealed in the updated standard operating procedures issued by the National Security Council yesterday.
The SOPs state that all tourism destinations and sites are allowed to operate for domestic visitors within the same district, or through travel bubbles.
However, this is on the condition that tourists, and tourism operators and staff are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and categorised as low-risk on the MySejahtera app.
Sites and activities such as zoos, farms, aquariums, edutainment centres, and extreme and adventure sports are still not allowed.
Crossing district lines in the state remains barred except for essential workers, long-distance married couples, and parents who want to see their children under the age of 18, with permission from police.
Indoor and outdoor sports and recreational facilities are permitted, with the exception of gymnasiums and fitness centres.
Swimming pools and water sports facilities, as well as public recreational centres (indoor and outdoor), can operate at 60% capacity. They are restricted to activities without physical contact and remain subject to approval from local authorities.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, in his daily statement, said the state recorded 2,246 new coronavirus cases and 28 deaths yesterday.
Tawau saw the highest number of deaths at 13, followed by Sandakan (8) and Papar (3). Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu, Kudat and Kota Marudu saw one fatality each.
Kota Kinabalu logged the highest number of fresh infections at 302, followed by Sandakan (244), Lahad Datu (201), Tuaran (196), Penampang (149), Kota Belud (115), Papar (114), Kinabatangan (112) and Keningau (105).
Sabah is currently treating 4,967 Covid-19 patients, with 187 requiring critical care (126 in intensive care and 61 in open wards) and 82 on ventilator support.
The state’s hospital bed occupancy for Covid-19 patients stands at 90.8%, with 1,688 patients occupying 1,860 beds.
As of yesterday, 49.5% of Sabah’s adult population, or 1,366,055 people, had completed their Covid-19 vaccination, while 65.8% had received the first dose. – The Vibes, September 11, 2021
