KUALA LUMPUR – Ahead of the memorandum of understanding signing with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in Parliament today, PKR communications chief Fahmi Fadzil said it is not a confidence and supply agreement (CSA).

The Lembah Pantai MP said the MoU is on a limited number of issues.

“There is no statutory declaration or anything like we support and give confidence to the prime minister. There is no such thing.

“An MoU and a CSA are very different. A CSA particularly refers to the formation of a government, particularly a minority one. That is why a CSA doesn’t apply in this case.

“In the federal constitution, there is no such thing as a minority government. Hence, a CSA in the Malaysian context is a bit of an anomaly.”

Ismail Sabri will ink an MoU with Pakatan Harapan leaders in Parliament’s banquet hall at 5pm.

In a joint press statement, representatives from both sides of the political divide said the relevant parties have agreed that the MoU will be signed to return political stability to the country, to bolster its Covid-19 fight and economic recovery.

Those who will attend are Ismail Sabri and PH leaders Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PKR), Lim Guan Eng (DAP), Mohamad Sabu (Amanah) and Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau ( United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation).

Fahmi affirmed that the status quo will be maintained, and the opposition will remain the opposition.

“We will remain the opposition, and we are still His Majesty’s loyal opposition.

“When there are injustices or transgressions, we will fight.”

He did not divulge details on the MoU, only saying it covers matters pertaining to parliamentary reforms, moratoriums and Covid-19 recovery, among others.

“Factually, we have never asked for a senior minister position for the opposition leader. We were offered it, but you will have to wait for the document and look through it.

“I can say the document is about 15 pages long, depending on how big they are printing it. It’s not a single-page MoU, it’s somewhat like a booklet.” – The Vibes, September 13, 2021
