KUALA LUMPUR – PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on party lawmakers at every level to exhibit strong examples of altruism during the country’s trying period, and even use their personal funds where possible to assist their constituents.
He said that PKR is not just a political party that exists to propose national policies and advise the government, but also an organisation that serves the needs of the people.
The parliamentary opposition leader said this during the launch of the party’s “Jelajah Peduli Nadi Rakyat” programme which involves the distribution of aid packages that include items like fresh chicken, food baskets and sanitary pads.
Also in attendance at the event at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya were Selangor PKR chief and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, PKR communications director and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil, and party information chief Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar who is Hang Tuah Jaya MP.
“I am happy because the MPs, state assemblymen, and party leaders from all levels have continued on the programme, which reduces the burdens and problems faced by the people due to the pandemic,” Anwar said.
The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman reminded his audience that it is because of the problems faced by the people that an understanding was reached with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“This is why we told the government that there is a responsibility to inject allocations into the B40 group.
“The understanding is that the allocation of RM45 billion must also go together with waiving interest fees for moratorium repayments,” Anwar added.
On Monday, the federal government led by Ismail Sabri and the PH coalition inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) titled “Transformation and Political Stability MoU”, on a range of reforms.
The areas agreed upon include a government allocation for an additional RM45 billion to the Covid-19 fund, making for a total of RM110 billion, and RM10 billion cash assistance for 11 million recipients.
Meanwhile, Amirudin highlighted that the state government has succeeded in distributing aid to 250,000 families.
“This pandemic is not only a health issue but an economic one,” he said.
“Selangor has undertaken many initiatives for the people to allow them to continue their lives during this pandemic.
“We have given 250,000 families food baskets, and today we are giving 10,000 more throughout the country,” Amirudin said. – The Vibes, September 17, 2021
