KOTA KINABALU – Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Yusof Yacob has quit Warisan, making him the second rep to have left the party this year, said a source who requested anonymity.

The source told The Vibes that Yusof is leaving Warisan to assist his constituents, insinuating that, as an opposition leader, he has not been able to assist them.

When contacted, Yusof did not respond to any queries, but his withdrawal was also confirmed by the source close to him.

“Yes, that’s right, he just left the party,” said the source.

Talk is rife that Yusof, who is also the party’s Sipitang division chief, will join Umno.

Political observers say this could be the start of the national party’s move to reclaim power in Sabah.

The Sindumin lawmaker’s departure follows Sebatik assemblyman Hassan A. Gani Pg Amir’s, who quit Warisan in February 25 this year.

Yusof had served as state education and innovation minister during Warisan’s 22 months in power and served as Sindumin assemblyman since 2018.

Previously, he was an Umno member until he quit and joined Warisan.

He defended his Sindumin seat with a 424-vote majority against four other contenders in the 16th Sabah election in September last year. – The Vibes, October 3, 2021
