GEORGE TOWN – Former PKR senator Yusmadi Yusoff is calling on his party to bring in younger political talents instead of looking to recruit “outside talents” for the upcoming Melaka election.

“As a party that has existed more than 20 years, I am sure it has built a generation of young people who have grown up in the struggle for reform.

“Many of the party’s loyal supporters should be given a chance to lead the people.

“The party should not be in there to merely reposition ‘outside talents’ whose loyalty and understanding of the party’s struggles and policies are not tested.

“As a party formed by the Reformasi movement, PKR must also reject any candidate who does not practise good political ethics and does not set a good example for the community,” he said in a statement today.

Yusmadi later told The Vibes that PKR has been running many internal capacity-building programmes, and these young talents should be given the chance to run in the state election on November 20.

“These talents can then be mentored by experienced leaders.

“The pool of talents can be found within members of Pertubuhan Generasi Keadilan Malaysia (Generasi Keadilan), which comprises former Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) members.

“They should be given a chance by the PKR leadership to play a pivotal role in the upcoming Melaka election,” he said.

Yusmadi, who is also Generasi Keadilan chairman, said PKR must advocate Reformasi principles internally instead of only externally by weeding out corrupt and unethical candidates.

“PKR has to showcase its reform agenda in the form of candidacy and also its agendas and initiatives,” he said.

He wants to see the party leadership reject underperforming PKR candidates who neither practise good political ethics nor set good examples to the community.

Both Generasi Keadilan Malaysia and Generasi Keadilan Melaka, he said, are committed and ready to help PKR achieve victory at the polls next month.

The Melaka assembly was dissolved earlier this month after four assemblymen withdrew their support for Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali as chief minister.

On Monday, Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh announced the polling election dates after chairing a special EC meeting. – The Vibes, October 20, 2021
