KUALA LUMPUR – The coronavirus R-naught (R0), or infectivity rate, is now below 1.0, announced Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“Efforts put in place by the Health Ministry for two weeks, balancing public health and the economy, have brought about positive results, with the R0 at less than 1.0,” he said in a statement.

“Using the R0 value of 1.0, we should see around 950 Covid-19 cases yesterday and today, but we only detected 799 the day before and 659 yesterday.”

The R0 value indicates the number of people who could be infected with a virus.

Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry will continue efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19.

He urged the public to comply with health and safety standard operating procedures, and stay indoors as much as possible.

“If everyone follows the SOPs, we can flatten the curve or reduce the R0 value from 1.0 to 0.3.” – The Vibes, November 1, 2020
