KUALA LUMPUR – Malay nationalist group Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) will be fielding five candidates in the upcoming Melaka election.

Its president and founder Datuk Ibrahim Ali said via Facebook Live today that originally, the party’s Melaka chapter had submitted 13 names for the polls, but since the party is still in its infancy, it can only field five candidates.

“After our political bureau discussed at length and raised the matter to our supreme council, we have made the decision to contest in the election, but we can only field five representatives to take part in the polls,” said Ibrahim.

The five contenders are state chief liaison officer Mohd Aluwi Sari, 55, who will contest in Pengkalan Batu, Laila Norinda Maun, 44, in Gadek, Mohd Faizal Hamzah, 44, in Duyong, Nazatul Asyraf Md Dom, 38, in Sg Rambai, and Muhammad Hashidi Mohd Zin, 32, in Paya Rumput.

The state assembly was dissolved by Governor Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam on October 5 after Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali lost majority support as chief minister.

This followed the withdrawal of support of four assemblymen – ex-Umno duo Datuk Seri Idris Haron and Datuk Nor Azman Hassan, Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (independent), and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (formerly of Bersatu).

Polling day is on November 20. – The Vibes, November 6, 2021
