KUALA LUMPUR – The Barisan Nasional (BN) linchpin cannot go it alone despite certain circles in Umno thinking otherwise, said a MCA man.

Gombak MCA chief Lawrence Yip said BN component parties have their own techniques in managing issues related to the races they seek to represent, and no party is less significant than the other.

“Umno cannot go ahead without MCA and MIC as it is very stupid and silly for any political party to say ‘oh, I can do it myself without your help’,” he said in an interview with The Vibes.

He added that such pride would only bring disaster to a political party.

Taking stock of the current situation, Yip admitted several divisions in BN component parties are facing problems, but efforts are being made to maintain harmony.

He said Umno, MIC, and MCA lack interaction and communication, and only come to life when elections are around the corner.

“Some divisions have issues in communicating with their counterparts and sadly, some think that giving goodies at the last minute will fix everything.”

He also called on BN leaders to take immediate action to remedy the situation before the next general election.

“It is through these component parties we understand what issues each race is facing and how to address them.”

When asked to comment on MCA Youth, Yip, who was Gombak MCA Youth chief for many years, said time and technology have changed since his era as youth today seem to take things for granted.

“I think there is a big generation gap between my time and what we have now. Before, we were actively doing programmes, serving the rakyat on the ground. Now they choose to ‘perform’ on social media.

“Posting beautiful pictures of yourself on Facebook and Instagram will not help you win the election. The rakyat does not want to see beautiful faces, but what can be delivered to them.

“The youth represent the most important component for Barisan Nasional, but they must be able to perform under pressure.” – The Vibes, November 12, 2021
