KOTA KINABALU – Restrictions in some locked-down Sabah areas will be eased to allow residents to buy diapers, infant formula and food items not available at nearby grocery stores, said Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

However, said the senior minister in his daily briefing today, this does not apply to prisons and detention centres under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

“We have agreed to ease the restrictions. A representative from each household in these localities is now allowed to leave home to buy such goods.

“They can go out and withdraw money from the ATM and stop to buy items that they need but are not available in their village.

“For fresh produce, the local market will be opened twice a week, from 6am to 2pm, to allow residents to buy fish and chicken.”

The targeted EMCO is in force in villages in Tawau, Semporna, Lahad Datu, Kunak and here.

On the December 5 Batu Sapi by-election, Ismail Sabri said the Election Commission has presented to the cabinet its proposed standard operating procedures, but improvements still need to be made.

“For instance, we have to consider interstate travel. The government cannot stop Sabahans from returning to Batu Sapi to vote, and as a matter of fact, we have to facilitate them.

“It is every Malaysian’s constitutional right to vote.” – The Vibes, November 2, 2020
