KUALA LUMPUR – Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar-independent) alleged that his constituency has been excluded from flood aid efforts, despite the current severe flood situation there.
In the Dewan Rakyat today, he said he had to house two families at his home due to the floods, adding that the government aid for victims is slow and not necessarily reaching them in time.
“My worry is, two weeks back, the floods were so bad that I had to house two families at my house,” said Syed Saddiq.
He said the government and Pakatan Harapan MPs received allocations for their constituencies, but not him.
Prior to Syed Saddiq’s comments, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Datuk Abdul Latiff Ahmad (Mersing-Bersatu) in his Budget 2022 winding-up speech said the National Disaster Management Agency is only one component in flood management.
Latiff said flood management requires cooperation among the federal, state, and local governments.
“The duty to manage floods must be shared, and it’s not for the federal government to handle. In fact, the matter can be solved at the state/district levels.
