KOTA KINABALU – A massive sinkhole has appeared in Jalan Teluk Likas near here, forcing state authorities to immediately close a section of the road.

The sinkhole measuring about 3m wide and 2m deep, which was discovered about 11am went viral online.

Sabah public works director Datuk Ali Ahmad Hamid said remedial works will start immediately.

“Signs have been put up to warn motorists,” he said to reporters here today.

A picture of the sinkhole showed that half of the road had caved in.

This is not the first time this is happening in Likas.

A few years ago, a portion of Jalan Tuaran had also collapsed due to water leakage from old water pipes in the area that had softened the soil underneath the road. – The Vibes, November 28, 2021
