MIRI – Labelling Sarawak and Sabah as part of mainland Malaysia can be perceived as an attempt to eliminate the status of both states as equal partners.
Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) information chief Abun Sui said that it is very dangerous to toy with the idea of labelling Sarawak (and Sabah) as “mainland Malaysia”.
The Miri-based lawyer said that he and his party comrades were taken aback with the fact that the topic was even brought up and talked about openly during the Dewan Rakyat session.
“How could they even discuss this topic? How could they even allow such a proposal to be raised in Parliament?
“Sarawak and Sabah are equal partners in Malaysia. Both states were formed together with Malaya and Singapore, which left shortly after.
“Malaysia now comprises Sarawak, Sabah and Malaya, three equal entities in one country.
“To even think of incorporating Sarawak and Sabah as mainland Malaysia is an attempt to wipe out our identity as equal partners.
“This is very dangerous,” Sui told The Vibes.
He asked if any MPs from Gabungan Parti Sarawak GPS) stood up and protested when the topic was raised.
“I challenge all of these GPS MPs (18 of them) to be bold in the Dewan and protest loudly,” Sui said, adding that silence means consent.
The topic was raised during this morning’s Dewan Rakyat sitting. – The Vibes, December 1, 2021
