KUALA LUMPUR – Consumers in some 70 areas in Hulu Langat can look forward to water supply resumption by tonight as the Semenyih 2 water treatment plant (WTP) has resumed supplying clean water after it was shut down yesterday.

As of 4pm today, Air Selangor said the Semenyih 2 WTP is in operation and water supply is expected to fully recover by 10pm.

The latest update added that operations at the Sg Langat WTP have started and water supply is expected to fully recover at 11pm on Wednesday.

The Langat 2 WTP is back in operation after the raw water pumping process was completed. Consumers can expect the water supply from Langat 2 to fully resume at 11pm on Wednesday.

“As for the Cheras Batu 11 WTP, the water treatment plant cleaning process is being carried out.”

Earlier at 7am today, Air Selangor said, the water supply from the Semenyih 2 WTP is expected to fully recover at 10pm today. The plant was shut yesterday evening due to the increasing water level in its raw water pump house.

“As for the Cheras Batu 11 WTP, the plant’s cleaning process is being implemented and the expected resumption of its full operations is yet to be confirmed at this time.

“For the Sg Langat WTP, operations have fully commenced and the water supply recovery process will be updated at a later time.

“The raw water pumping process has started for Langat 2 WTP. The supply recovery process will be updated at a later time.”

Nearly 600 areas in Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Langat and other Klang Valley areas are experiencing unscheduled water supply disruptions due to the shutdown of several water treatment plants.

Continuous rainfall swept through the central states of Malaysia in the past few days, triggering flash floods and landslides that severely affected areas in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Pahang.

Thousands of victims have been evacuated from their homes into temporary shelters while many are still stranded, seeking help through social media.

Air Selangor said water tankers have been mobilised in stages to the affected areas, with priority given to critical premises during the unscheduled water supply disruption.

“Air Selangor is seeking consumers’ cooperation in practising social distancing and wearing face masks while collecting water from the tankers,” it said.

Consumers can look up the list of areas affected on Air Selangor’s website and the Air Selangor app.

The water company will post updates on this situation through its official accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Consumers can also get in touch with the Air Selangor contact centre at 15300, as well as submit enquiries and complaints through the help centre on the website and the Air Selangor app. – The Vibes, December 20, 2021
