KUALA LUMPUR – After being removed as Selangor National Security Council (NSC) chairman yesterday, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar has attempted to school state Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on government duties.

In a press conference today, Noh said he wants to clarify orders and government administration, although it is not the time to point fingers.

He added that there are two councils under NSC – one deals with security and public safety, which Noh himself is in charge of.

“The other council is tasked with disaster management, and chaired by the state secretary.

“I am still the Selangor NSC chairman. Amirudin merely took over the duties of the state secretary.

“Even so, the MB does not understand. That’s why flood management at the state level was chaotic. So, I will say this to the Selangor MB – don’t blame others, and don’t blame me.”

Noh said he had received distress calls on December 18 from friends and family trapped by the floods – from 2pm till 3am the next day.

Noh said he then took the initiative to request for rescue efforts from the Fire and Rescue Department director-general.

He said when visiting temporary relief centres, he was disappointed that some centres did not provide basic needs for victims, such as food and blankets.

He noted this was due to the fact that those centres are yet to be gazetted.

“We did what we could to help in the meantime, like providing food while waiting for the gazette.”

Commenting on the video that went viral yesterday, Noh said it is in his nature as a politician to listen to complaints from the public.

“That’s my style. She wanted to express her feelings, so I listened.

“I already knew about everything she was saying.”

Noh was in the limelight yesterday, after a video of him getting lectured by a Hulu Langat flood victim was widely shared on social media and messaging platforms.

He was also criticised on his response to the massive floods that hit Klang Valley over the weekend, with many netizens and opposition lawmakers calling for his resignation. – The Vibes, December 22, 2021
