KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN) after undergoing a procedure four days ago.

In a brief statement, IJN said the Langkawi MP will continue his recuperation and recovery process at home.

“Dr Mahathir and (wife) Tun Dr Siti Hasmah express their thanks to everyone for their concern and du’a (prayers) over the last one week when he was admitted.”

The 96-year-old was admitted last Friday, before undergoing an elective medical procedure the following day, which was carried out by a team of doctors from the institute and Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.

Dr Mahathir’s most recent admission came just two weeks after he was discharged from IJN on December 23, where he similarly underwent a series of medical investigations.

He was previously admitted on December 16.

The two-time prime minister suffered his first heart attack in 1989 and had two more in 2006. A year later, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery.

He was also hospitalised in February 2018 at IJN. – The Vibes, January 13, 2022
