Seniors make up over 60% of M’sian Covid-19 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR – More than half of the total percentage of Covid-19 deaths involve the elderly as of February 7, at 61.3%.

According to a tweet by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, there have been 19,646 Covid-19 deaths involving senior citizens out of the total 32,034 deaths.

He also stated that 336,848 (11.5%) of the elderly population have been infected by Covid-19.

Additionally, the percentage of vaccinated senior citizens who completed two doses has reached a peak of 96%, as of 7 February.

A total number of 3,335,309 of older Malaysians have gotten both doses, while 2,258,521 (67.7%) have received their booster shots.

Dr Noor Hisham also updated that the current infectivity rate (Rt) is now at 1.32, which is a slight decrease from yesterday’s infection rate, which sat at Rt 1.33.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal, data for the past two weeks showed that Sabah has the highest number of deaths at 37 victims in the country, followed by Johor with 31. 

Sabah also holds the highest number of Covid-19 cases on a seven-day average, with 3,974 cases. – The Vibes, February 17, 2022
