KUALA LUMPUR – It is a six-cornered fight for Muda candidate Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, who is vying for the Puteri Wangsa seat in the upcoming Johor polls.
The new face representing Muda will be fiercely opposed by Ng Yew Aik (Barisan Nasional) and Loh Kah Yang (Perikatan Nasional) under the Bersatu flag.
Also contesting for the seat are Dr Khairil Anwar Razali (Pejuang), Steven Choong Shiau Yoon (Parti Bangsa Malaysia), and Adzrin Adam as an independent candidate.
Earlier, Amira said she felt nervous when she arrived at the candidate nomination centre in Taman Pelangi Indah Hall near Ulu Tiram at 8.05am today.
As soon as the nomination process was over, she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Alhamdulillah, I am legally a candidate for the Puteri Wangsa seat. I am number six. I was the first to arrive, but my draw was the last.
“But I’m happy to explain to the people to vote for the last number on the ballot paper later, which is number six,” she said through a video shared on Twitter.
During the 14th general election (GE14), the Puteri Wangsa state seat was won by Pakatan Harapan candidate from Bersatu, Mazlan Buang, with a majority of 24,959 in a five-cornered contest.
However, Mazlan, former chairman of Bersatu Johor, announced his resignation from the party on January 27.
He said the decision was made on the grounds that he no longer believed in the leadership of Bersatu president and former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Based on data from the Election Commission, a total of 2.57 million ordinary voters out of a total of 2.59 million registered voters are eligible to vote in the Johor election, which will take place on March 12.
The number of voters in Johor recorded an increase of about 28% compared to only 1.8 million voters in GE14.
There is an addition of 749,731 voters aged 18 and above, following the automatic registration under Undi18. – The Vibes, February 26, 2022
