KUALA LUMPUR – The last nine Malaysian diplomats in Kyiv finally managed to escape war-torn Ukraine through neighbouring Poland this morning.
The Foreign Ministry tweeted that the convoy led by Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Fadhilah Daud had reached the Korczowa-Krakovets border of Ukraine and Poland at 5.45am on February 27, 2022 Malaysian time.
“The convoy of nine Malaysians, two Ukrainian dependants and one Singaporean national evacuated from Kyiv led by Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, Fadhilah Daud, has safely arrived at the Korczowa-Krakovets border of Ukraine and Poland at 5.45am on February 27, 2022 (local time at 10.45pm) on February 26.”
“The convoy was received by officials from the Embassy of Malaysia in Poland. All evacuees and accompanying officials will be making their way to Warsaw, Poland.
“Wisma Putra is in constant contact with officials of the embassies on their location, safety as well as of the accompanying convoy,” said the tweet.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah also voiced his relief that the diplomats and their dependents had safely reached the Polish border.

“Alhamdulillah, the convoy that evacuated nine Malaysians and two of their dependents and a Singaporean from Kyiv led by the Interim Authority @MYEmbKyiv Fadhilah David has safely reached the Korczowa-Krakovets, Ukraine’s border with Poland.
“The convoy was greeted by two officials from the Malaysian Embassy in Poland @EmbMy. They are on the way to Warsaw right now and will return to Kuala Lumpur in the near future,” said Saifuddin this morning.
The Kremlin launched an unprovoked invasion into the sovereign territory of Ukraine on Thursday, leading Kyiv to announce the closure of its airspace for civilian use due to the high risk of being shot down by jet fighters.
Therefore, the Wisma Putra officers had to travel via road to Poland in a 10-hour-journey covering 782km.
