[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases drop below 20,000 first time after a week

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 caseload has dipped below the 20,000 mark to 16,863, a first since a week ago.

However, more than half are recorded in the Klang Valley (10,668) as of midnight, according to data on the CovidNow website. This brings the cumulative total to 4,138,867.

The country also logged another 37 deaths, of which six are classified as brought-in-dead, bringing the toll to 34,751.

Selangor remains the state with the most new cases, logging 9,273 infections followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,395).

The rest of the states are below the 1,000 mark – Penang (990), Perak (836), Johor (764), Kedah (652), Sarawak (631), Negri Sembilan (556), Melaka (403), Pahang (383), Terengganu (327), Kelantan (295), Sabah (245), Labuan (38), Putrajaya (38) and Perlis (37).

Meanwhile, Selangor has a Jalan Rimba high-risk group cluster in the Petaling district with nine cases and a positivity rate of 42.9%.

There are currently 233,179 active cases with 226,656 (97.2%) under home quarantine, 5,192 patients in hospitals and 1,032 in low-risk treatment and quarantine centres. Some 187 patients are aided by ventilators, while 112 are under intensive care.

Majority of the new cases are in Category 1 (8,652) and Category 2 (8,111), followed Category 3 (48), Category 4 (29) and Category 5 (23).

ICU bed usage for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur remains above the 50% threshold at 63% and 52%, respectively. – The Vibes, March 28, 2022
